Tornado warning for Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, & Guthrie cos.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Tornado Warning for the following areas until 4:15 AM CDT:

– Northwestern Guthrie County in west-central Iowa

– Northern Audubon County in west-central Iowa

– Southeastern Crawford County in west-central Iowa

– Southwestern Carroll County in west-central Iowa


– Time of Issue: At 3:25 AM CDT

– Location: A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Irwin, approximately 12 miles northwest of Audubon, moving northeast at 50 mph.

– Hazard: Tornado

– Source: Radar indicated rotation

– Impact: Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

Affected Areas and Approximate Times

– Gray: Around 3:30 AM CDT

– Manning and Templeton: Around 3:35 AM CDT

– Dedham: Around 3:45 AM CDT

Other impacted locations include Gray, Arcadia, Templeton, Dedham, Manilla, Manning Municipal Airport, Halbur, Aspinwall, and Westside.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions

– Take Cover Now! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows.

– If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

– This cluster of thunderstorms is capable of producing tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building immediately.
