Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among men, with an estimated 248,530 new cases and 34,130 deaths expected in the United States in 2021, according to the American Cancer Society. The organization recommends that men at average risk of developing prostate cancer should start getting screened at age 50, while men at higher risk, such as African American men and men with a family history of the disease, should start screening at age 45 or earlier.
